A canal with two floors

The Oudegracht runs a storey below the street. At the waterline is the wharf, and behind it the cellars that merchants dug into the bank in the thirteenth century to take goods straight off the boats.

Many are cafés and workshops now. On a dry morning the wharf is the quietest way from the Weesbrug to the Bakkerbrug, eleven minutes from the station.

Photograph to come. The wharf below the Weesbrug at nine in the morning, taken from the water's edge: cellar doors on the left, the street a storey above.

How it works

Veyloca lists what is on around a place, nearest first.

Distance is counted in minutes on foot along streets and over bridges, so a canal without a bridge nearby counts as the detour it is.

Listings come from the venues, museums, markets and organisers themselves. Each one says who added it and when it last changed.

The fonts and the map on this page come from Veyloca itself, so reading it tells no other company that you were here.
